The RM260K ($60,000) OGA Dota PIT Online competition for the Chinese division came to an end with an epic best-of-five battle between the two strongest teams in the region.
Both Vici Gaming and PSG.LGD Gaming topped their respective groups to earn a spot straight into the playoffs semifinals. Their successful run pitted them against each other in the finals act, where VG made quick work PSG.LGD to become the first grand finalist of the tournament. PSG.LGD bounced back from the lower bracket finals by taking down EHOME yesterday, with a clean 2-0. However, the rematch with VG in the bo5 grand finals didn’t bring a change in results against the only Chinese team that made it to top three at the only two Major tournaments that got to be played this season.
The OGA Dota PIT grand finals started with PSG.LGD winning the draft mind games. They tricked VG with a Riki pick, but the hero proved to be a support for captain Xu “fy” Linsen, while the real carry was revealed with the last pick as being Phantom Lancer. PL was a strong counter to VG’s Medusa – Mars combo, and with the game plan nullified in the drafting stage, VG were given no chance at victory. However, they kept the Mars-Medusa combo in place for game two as well, but they improved it with a Phoenix, which made the team fights nearly impossible for PSG.LGD and the score went 1-1.
Mars got finally banned in game three by PSG.LGD, and while Vici Gaming were aligning a good line-up for early skirmishes, with a support Tusk and an offlane Pangolier, their adversaries were looking to take over the game with incredibly strong wombo-combo team fight.
However, playing around the long cooldown of Enigma’s ultimate, while also waiting for Gyrocopter to get Aghanim’s Scepter, which he never got, put PSG.LGD at a disadvantage and VG were able to punish their greediness and take the series lead 2-1. The final match of the grand finals was much more balanced, as both teams wanted to clash from early stages. At the 20-minute mark VG and PSG.LGD were dead even, with the kills score being 18 to 17 in PSG.LGD’s favour and less than one thousand gold difference between the two teams. However, a Roshan fight right after that, where Lu “Maybe” Yao on Templar Assassin lost the Aegis, was the point where VG slowly took control over the game and kept the momentum up to end the series 3-1.
