  • MidOne and kpi have joined Mushi’s squad, Team SMG, for the SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Open Qualifiers
  • However, neither the players nor Team SMG have officially announced this roster change at the time of writing

MidOne and kpii have united in the SEA region after parting ways with their former OG and TNC Predator teams. Malaysian Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng and Australian Damien “kpii” Chok have joined Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung’s squad, Team SMG, for the SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Open Qualifiers. Information regarding this appeared on the gaming platform, Faceit, where the two players were seen as a part of Team SMG’s five-person roster. However, neither the players nor Team SMG have officially announced this roster change at the time of writing. The SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Open Qualifiers #1 are scheduled to begin on April 6, 2021.

MidOne and kpii Join SEA squad, Team SMG; To Play Alongside Mushi

MidOne and kpii will be replacing vtFaded and Ohaiyo, who were a part of the team’s roster in the last couple of tournaments that Team SMG played: Asian New Bloom and Moon Studio Spring Trophy. While the team has withdrawn from the Spring Trophy tournament, they forfeited their final playoff matches in the Asian New Bloom event.

According to the Faceit registrations, Team SMG’s roster for the SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Open Qualifiers will be:

  • Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng
  • Muhammad “Neah666” Ammar Rasulli
  • Damien “kpii” Chok
  • Tue “ah fu” Soon Chuan
  • Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung

This is not the first time MidOne and Mushi play together as they previously played together for Fnatic in 2015-16, which saw them secure a Top 4 finish at TI6. MidOne then had a successful stint with Team Secret from 2016-19 following which he joined OG in early 2020. He then parted ways with the OG organization in March 2021.

On the other hand, kpii, who has previously played for top teams like Newbee and Mineski, joined TNC Predator in 2019. He helped the Filipino team secure its first DPC Major at MDL Chengdu Major when they defeated Vici Gaming 3-1 in the grand finals. The Australian offlaner parted ways with TNC Predator in March 2021 and position five Korean player, Febby, as the team wanted to play with an all-Filipino roster.

The first round of the SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: open qualifiers will be held from April 6 to April 7. If the team manages to win it, they will directly qualify for the Lower Division.

Since there has been no official confirmation by either the players or the team, it still remains to be seen if MidOne and kpii have been recruited on a permanent basis or if they’re confirmed as stand-ins for the qualifiers.
