With a 2-0 victory over GODSENT, Vitality continue their run in ESL One: Road to Rio, earning at least a top-6 finish.

In the only meeting between the two sides to date, which took place in ESL Pro League S11, Vitality secured a 2-0 victory over GODSENT – and history repeated itself in the lower-bracket of ESL One: Road to Rio – Europe today. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut had a surprisingly quiet game for his standards (1.14 rating), but that wasn’t an issue for the Frenchmen who won Dust2 16-14 and Inferno 16-7 to continue their run in the tournament.

Vitality’s next opponent will be the loser of the NiP – FaZe game, while GODSENT will face the loser of North – Heretics in the 7-8th place decider match.

Vitality were off to a dominant start on the offensive side of Dust2, a surprising map pick from GODSENT. The French team grabbed a 7-0 lead before Jesse “zehN” Linjala’s triple got his side on the board, but Richard “shox” Papillon and Cédric “RpK” Guipouy turned around a 3v5 in the following round to run away with the half, 10-5.

The veteran duo was leading the charge for Vitality throughout the map and it seemed like they were going to close it out swiftly. They thwarted the pistol round push and following force buys (14-5), but zehN inspired the European squad’s comeback as they slowly but surely reached the 14-15 scoreline. GODSENT stumbled at the final hurdle, unable to close out the 2v2 afterplant on B, and Vitality took the lead in the series.

Mikail “Maikelele” Bill’s triple kill allowed GODSENT to kick off Inferno with a lead, going 4-0 up before Vitality stole away a 2v3 on A, taking the wind out of the European side’s sails. Executes towards A and B were working wonders for Vitality, but aggressive moves from Kevin “kRYSTAL” Amend and co. at the end of the half got them to seven rounds before the switch.

In the second half, Pavle “Maden” Bošković was unable to clutch out the pistol round, sending GODSENT into another streak of force buys which they were unable to convert into a round win. Vitality reached 14 after GODSENT took their first eco as Terrorists, and swept aside their opponents fast-paced plays to seal Inferno with a perfect CT side, 16-7
